WHAT IS YARD WASTE?

Yard waste must be free of metal, food waste and garbage.

HOW DO I PACKAGE A YARD WASTE FOR CURBSIDE COLLECTION

(such as cans or bushel baskets), paper bags, biodegradable bags or clear bags, separate from your garbage. Do not put yard waste into green or black garbage bags, as it may be mistaken for garbage.

Bundle and tie your brush: Ensure bundled and tied brush/tree trimmings are a maximum 10 cm in diameter (four in.), are no longer than 1.2 m (four ft.) and no wider than 0.76 m (2.5 ft.). Bags and containers should be no heavier than 23 kg (50 lbs.).

WHAT HAPPENS TO TH E YARD WASTE AFTER IT IS COLLECTED?

Yard waste will be composted for use as a soil conditioner

Finished compost that meets the standards of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, will be offered to the public and used as fertilizer in local parks

SHOULD I CONTINUE USING MY BACKYARD COMPOSTER?

Yes! The yard waste program complements composting.

Continue using your backyard composter. Place any excess yard waste at the curb

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY GRASS CLIPPINGS?

Grasscycling- leaving grass on your lawn after mowing is preferred. It reduces the need to fertilize and produces a healthier lawn, while saving you time and energy.

If you don't grass cycle, please collect your grass clippings for yard waste collection.
