Our Fundraisers, Services and Programs
Fund Raising Programs
Ontario Division of
Sobey's supports the Learning Disabilities Association. Sobey's store will host a
charity program across the province on Sunday May 6th, 2001 and on May 27th,
2001 which is also a Sunday. Sobey's will donate all the products that will be
sold. LDA has to staff the event.
We are looking for volunteers to work shifts from 10 AM to 2 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM
on either of these days.
Here's a fun way for secondary students to perform their community hours and for
members to assist in our fund raising program.
LDA charity bingos run out of
Rutherford Bingo in Brampton. We are currently seeking volunteers to help run
these events. The next scheduled events are:
March 15, 16, 20 & 28 from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m.
March 23rd from 6:30-9:30
April 12th from 12:30-3:30
May 23rd from 12:30-3:30
Resource Counseling
Telephone or office visits for parents of LD/ADD children, adults with
LD/ADD or professionals who work with LD/ADD clients. Information is provided regarding
rights and responsibilities, resources in the community and accommodations.
Charles Fournier Resource Library
Chapter maintains an extensive library of videotapes, audio tapes and books
about learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder/ Hyperactivity, Parenting
techniques, Advocacy, Teaching strategies, etc. Borrowing privileges for members only.
Non-members are welcome to visit, photocopying available at a charge. Chapter has a
viewing room for visitors to watch videotapes.
Tutoring
Office maintains a binder of resumes of individuals who are interested in
tutoring. Individual tutorials for children, adolescents and adults at home or at a
mutually suitable location. Tutors provide assistance with language arts, math, French and
organizational skills. Each tutor sets their own fee scale.
Parent Support Group
Monthly meeting for parents and others who are involved with learning
disabled and attention deficit disorder children and adults. Meetings are held on the
3rd Monday of each month at 150 Central Park Drive, Suite
104, at 7:00 p.m. There is no charge to attend. All are welcome. (See Schedule of

Monthly Information Meeting
Chapter presents speaker(s) who present information about issues of
interest and concern to parents, adults, teachers and other community professionals who
are or work with LD/ADD individuals. These monthly presentations follow the Parent's
Support Group Meetings. (See Schedule of Upcoming Programs & Services)
Youth Group
Youth Group for ages 13-18 years, meet monthly for recreation, socializing,
friendships, and outings. There is no charge to attend but from time to time there
are some expenses for the outings. All youth who have learning disabilities or who live
with a learning disabled person are welcome. Friends are welcome too. (See Schedule of

Adult Support Group
This is a group for learning disabled/attention deficit disorder adults
(18+). Informal monthly meetings are held the last Monday of each month at 110 Dundas St.
West, Mississauga. There is no charge to attend.
Workshops and Seminars
On an as needed basis, workshops and seminars are offered to the community.
Topics include parenting techniques, advocacy skills, LD/ADD-diagnosis and treatment,
reading remediation programs for teachers etc. Experienced speakers will present these
workshops. Occasionally, there is a charge. For more info about upcoming workshops,

Membership to the L.D.A
Annual membership fee to the L.D.A. is: Family/Individual $50 for 1 year,
$90 for 2 years, $130 for 3 years. Student $20 for I year. Professional $75 for 1
year, $135 for 2 years, $190 for 3 years. Institution $125 for 1 year.
You receive a quarterly Chapter Newsletter and quarterly newsletters from L.D.A.O. and
L.D.A.C. Membership provides borrowing privileges to your Chapter library. Membership
applications are available at the Chapter office.
Social Skills
This is an activity based communication program to assist children and
adolescents to learn appropriate social skills to enable them to integrate into the
mainstream of society and become accepted by their peers. 15 hour, 12 week course. (See

Keyboarding Skills/Computer
A Touch Typing Program for children, adolescents ages 7-1 6. The objectives
are to familiarize students with keyboarding and teach touch typing using a computer.
Often beneficial to students who are experiencing written skill difficulties. 15 hour, 12 week course. (See Schedule of Upcoming Programs &
